Fishing Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay fishing is one of the most exceptional places in the state of Florida to fish. An amazing fishery that consist of both feeder canals and tidal flows from the Gulf of Mexico. Due to these elements working in unison, the fishery is highly active all year long. For kayak anglers and boaters alike, the skinny water fishing is second to none on the west coast. The fishery is also part of the massive adult Tarpon migration every year in the Summer, as well as an awesome Fall cobia run.

Add to this the resident backwater Snook, juvenile Tarpon, Bull Redfish, and Gator Sea Trout that call Tampa Bay home, you can begin to see why this fishery is one of the best. A lot of fishing guides call Tampa Bay home and make a living providing fishing trips here with full time Tampa Bay Fishing Charters like those from Captain Steve Bets and Tampa Flats and Bay Fishing Charters. Though these boaters do have a solid foundation here, kayakers alike come by the hundreds each with their “secret spots” and awesome watercraft. Tampa Bay has one of the highest populations of kayak anglers in the state, and this comes with the amazing fishery here.

Tampa Bay is also home to a large inshore fly fishing culture as it is home to extensive grass flats that lend themselves to awesome sight fishing opportunities. But even if just banging the mangrove line with a clouser, Snook and Snapper are ready to pounce all day long. One last aspect I will point out is the night time dock light Snook fishing is amazing. With loads of feeder canals and a large coastal residential population, green lights and amazing structure lurk around every corner within the Bay. If you haven’t tried docklight Snook fishing at night, you really need to give that a go – eve on fly tackle.
